Equinox & the Sun Enters Libra
(You can find S hemisphere at bottom of page) We reach the equinox point this week as the power of the daylight and the power of the night briefly meet as equals and nod to each other at this time of equipoise. From here in the north we descend into the dark time of the year, catalyzing a retreat from the extensive, extroverted activities that accompany the light half of the year. From here in the south we ascend from the darkness into the increasing light that pushes us up and out into the active, growing time of the year. Last week there was an assassination attempt on RFK jrs life. A well armed man had penetrated his security but thankfully was discovered and arrested before anything could happen. Podcaster and comedian Russell Brand has been pulled into the dark undertow of the world via accusations of sexual assault. What do these two men have in common? RFK has a 27° Capricorn Sun, Russell Brand has a 27° Capricorn ascendant. The US Pluto is also 27° Cap and as we know, it is experiencing its first return. As my colleague Serina Arlene pointed out, both men’s stories are tied deeply to the US Pluto return. Light & shadow are what this world is made of and this week we honor this contrast. No one alive escapes the assignment of having a shadow and if we spend all of our time noticing and pointing out others’ shadows then we miss the more important work of doing our own shadow integration. Take some time this week to do some shadow work in honor of the changing equinoctial tides. Here are some suggestions for journaling: -Describe your joy & pain. -Be honest with yourself, even when it’s difficult -What’s something you’re often embarrassed to admit to others? -What do you wish your friends & family knew about you? -What do you notice that makes your body tense up? The dark time of the year, whether entering or leaving is Persephone’s territory and she and her descent to the underworld is a part of all of us. Monday September 18 Today the Virgo Sun reaches its annual opposition with Neptune in Pisces, this time at the 26th degree. This is the axis of order & chaos, where we learn to find the sweet spot between working our butts off and trusting in the divine. If you go too far either way you end up in too much sterility or too much chaos so this is the annual reminder to “trust in god but tie up your camel”. Where in your life do you need to work on strengthening your boundaries? Where in life are you a control freak? Let the yin and yang of this axis find a healthy harmony inside of your own psyche. Also today, the Moon enters Scorpio and joins Ceres as a nod to the imminent equinox. Where are you fed and cared for and where are you hungry and neglected? Take some time to love and tend those cast out parts of self. Tuesday September 19 Mercury leaves his station degree today and we are given the green light to start new things. Whew! That was a lot having the Venus & Mercury retrogrades overlap. Happy to have them in the rear view mirror now. Relationships are the focus today as we are encouraged to upgrade our ways of relating on the surface levels as they percolate straight down into the deeper levels of relating such as to do with sex & money, often the hot button themes. Wednesday September 20 The Sag Moon makes a cautionary square to Saturn in Pisces today, checking the usual extensive optimism of Jupiter’s day sign. This means that you are asked to consciously use the pulse of expansion & contraction to further your life goals. The Sun, Pluto, & Uranus make a grand earth trine today, offering up a sizable healing portal if you lean in. Nothing passive here, but there are big rewards for bravely and boldly looking at the places you have been asleep and afraid. We are entering another round of fear pushing around illness. Instead of letting that be your guide, instead you can take some time today to learn how to be proactive around tonic herbal, nutritional, & mineral ways of caring for your health so that you don’t get any big sicknesses.
Thursday September 21 Today holds some fun as the playful Sag Moon trines Venus in Leo. Take advantage of it and go find a friend and have an adventure of some sort. It also makes a square to Mercury in Virgo asking for you to be able to pulse between the big picture and small picture.
Friday September 22 Happy Equinox! The Sun enters Libra today as Mars has been chasing Venus & Juno in a sextile all week. There is flirtation in the air as our focus shifts from solo Virgo into the joy of the other that Libra highlights. Venus has been recently purified through her retrograde and is now the brilliant morning star. Mars in Libra is all about relationship but his opposition to Chiron says there is some big work to be done here this month. What wounds are needing tending? Healing is always possible but Mars says it requires action on your part. Seek out healing and growth this Libra season so that your partnerships may flourish and grow rather than be stagnant.
Saturday September 23 We start out the Libra season with the Sun inconjunct Saturn in the signs of the benefics, as said benefics continue their quincunx dance. This is another sign that this Libra season wants you to actively work on all of your relationships that they may support you in your life vs being detrimental. The Cap Moon makes the second grand earth trine of the week, linking Mercury in Virgo & Jupiter in Taurus. This is productive and helpful astrology for the earth plane. Whether you’re prepping for winter in the north or summer in the south, there are many earth tasks to be done right now. It’s a gift, so use it!
Sunday September 24 Today is a red-flag day as the Moon makes her monthly meeting with Pluto, square to the Nodes. This astroweather may inspir some shadowy feelings and thoughts. Note what comes up today and use some of the shadow work prompts I gave you above and see if you can make some headway instead of just feeling moody and grumpy.
